Watershed Baseline Study
Mesa County, Colorado
Western Water & Land developed and implemented a surface water baseline study of source waters in one of Colorado’s pristine watersheds. The project was initiated as a result of potential oil and gas development within the two adjacent municipal watersheds. The primary elements of the project included initial field reconnaissance and source water inventory, development and preparation of a watershed monitoring plan, field sampling at selected surface water sites over a two –year period, development and management of a water quality database, contributions to a community-based Watershed Plan jointly prepared by the municipalities, county, U.S. BLM, and U.S. Forest Service. The final report prepared for the project focused on the development of a conceptual hydrogeologic model based on the baseline hydrochemistry, field mapping, and the delineation of hydrologic sensitive areas.
