Stormwater Design & Construction Oversight
Garfield County, Colorado
Western Water & Land prepared a comprehensive stormwater control and design plan for an inactive underground oil shale mine in western Colorado. The design plan was submitted to and approved by the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety as a technical revision to the existing mine permit. Work involved field conceptualization of stormwater drainage and diversion from several large mine waste rock dumps and existing roads; preparation of a design plan with engineering drawings; and associated calculation of stormwater structures design in accordance with county specifications. The design resulted in two large rip-rap drainage structures fed by several smaller diversion run-on and run-off ditches. Upon receiving approval of the design, Western Water & Land hired and oversaw construction of the stormwater drainage mitigation structures by a local excavation contractor.
