Water Rights & Water Availability Assessment
Sunrise Canyon Ranch, Delta County, Colorado
Western Water & Land completed an evaluation of the water rights and water availability and permitted wells associated with the potential sale of land comprising the Sunrise Canyon Ranch. The evaluation was performed to help verify how well the water rights and supply available have historically met the needs of the land. The water rights evaluation was performed by using historical diversion records to assess both the rate of diversion and the quantity or amount of water diverted at each structure. Western Water & Land concluded that, on average, the amount of water diverted at the existing surface water structures was sufficient to meet the irrigation water requirements for growth of pasture grass and/or bluegrass on the acreages delineated for each structure. In addition, three permitted wells were found to be located in the property. One well was found to be an exempt well and not subject to the administration system under the prior appropriation system. The other two wells were non-exempt wells which are subject to administration under the prior appropriation system, however, there were no water rights for these wells.
