Watershed Protection: Municipal Watersheds
Mesa County, Colorado Western Water & Land provided hydrologic oversight for a program designed to assess and mitigate hydrologic impacts associated with construction of the TransColorado Gas Transmission Inc. pipeline across the Grand Mesa Slopes Area. Western Water & Land was responsible for field assessments and identification of hydrologic issues associated with the proposed route of the 22-inch diameter gas pipeline in a sensitive watershed and ecological area; preparation of technical letter reports; technical review of required permits associated with watershed access and TransColorado’s Plan of Development; interfacing with TransColorado’s employees and their consultants; and acting as liaison between the property owners and TransColorado. The assessments resulted in a re-alignment of the pipeline in certain areas. In addition, a baseline water quality sampling program was designed and implemented that resulted in a geochemical characterization of surface waters within the watersheds and an evaluation of compliance with existing state water quality regulations. |
