Water Rights & Litigation Support
Western Water & Land, Inc. routinely provides our clients and their attorneys with the technical support and documentation required for water right applications/filings, substitute water supply plans, plans for augmentation, and dispute resolution. We utilize our technical expertise in surface water and groundwater hydrology to effectively support, and if necessary, defend our clients’ interests. Our demonstrated experience, understanding of the technical aspects of water administration and policy in our state, and reputation for providing high quality service based on sound science applications have fostered our strong working relationships with prominent local water attorneys, water commissioners, DWR state and water division personnel, water providers, irrigation districts, conservation districts, and other water managers in our region.
The breadth of our water rights services extends beyond technical support for the legal aspects of water administration. For example, we commonly perform hydrologic assessments designed to delineate existing and potential water sources such as springs, seeps, and other groundwater resources at our clients’ properties. These assessments include evaluation of both the quantity and quality of each potential water source. We utilize instantaneous measurements, and when necessary, continuous monitoring and recording devices to assess and track flow and water level changes over time. Our water quality assessments of source waters are designed to ensure that the water quality of potential sources is compatible with the intended use(s) of the water supply.
Our services also include helping our clients assess water demands and irrigation water requirements associated with their projects. In addition, we frequently prepare water rights inventories for our clients to assess the potential for acquisition of existing rights to meet their project demands.
